At the monthly meeting of the Fire
Department Donovan Ashley was introduced as Ossining's newest
Firefighter! Donovan joined Engine 97 - Cataract Hose.
The Official Chief Santucci Countdown On: December 16th, 2006
It Happens every other year. There
is a Chiefs election in December and on the first day of
January the Chief goes out of Office and becomes a Deputy
Chief. On the same day the other chief's move up in rank and
the new Second Assistant is sworn in. The term of Chief is a
long one (six years). It is filled with meetings, conferences
and other events such as parades. Mauro has given it his all.
So next time you see him remind him he only has a few days
left.
Annual Chiefs Election On: December 5th, 2006
The Bi-annual Chiefs election took
place today in the Quarters of Monitor Hose Company. Chief
Fred Steneck was elected to Chief Engineer, Chief Connolly was
elected to First Assistant Chief and Tom Reddy was elected to
the position of Second Assistant Chief.

At the monthly meeting of the Fire
Department Shane Farrell was introduced as Ossining's newest
Firefighter! Chris joined Truck 42 - Washington Hook and
Ladder.
Box 6-6, 10 Martin Rd - Thanksgiving day fire On: November 23rd, 2006 at approximately 12:25 HRS
A Box 6-6 was transmitted for a
reported working house fire at 10 Martin Road. Car 2331 was
the first arriving unit on scene and confirmed a fire in the
Stove. Police Officer on scene removed the burning turkey from
the oven to a safe location. Units remained on scene
to ventilate the house. Talk

Box 2-1-3 Working Fire On: November 20th, 2006 at approximately 9:45 PM
A Box 2-1-3 was transmitted for a
chimney fire at 13 McCarthy Drive in the Town of Ossining. The
fire was quickly knocked down. One Firefighter was taken to
Westchester County Medical Center for injuries related to a
fall. The Fire Department would like to thank all Departments
that responded mutual aid. Talk

Drill at Sing Sing On: November 14th, 2006
The Ossining Fire Department held
a drill at the Sing Sing Prison parking garage. The drill went
very well with members of the Prison providing valuable info
if a vehicle was on fire within the structure. One note to
responding Firefighters is that if the engine is coming off
State St. there are NO Fire hydrants from State St. to the
garage. If you need to hit a hydrant you will have to do so on
Hunter St. Facts of the story provided by Jason Lorenz. Talk

Box 6-6 Working Fire On: November 9th, 2006
A Box 6-6 was transmitted for a
confirmed working house fire in La Placita which is on the
corner of South Highland and Acker Ave. The fire was above the
cooler units in the store. Once the ceiling was pulled the fire
was knocked down. With million to one odds Chief Mauro
Santucci was on his way home from vacation and the LimBUSine
drove right by so Mauro could lead the troops! TL 40 and
Rescue 37 to the scene. After the fire was under control
another General alarm was sounded for a report of fire on
Havell Street. It was found that it was a pot on the stove.
THe pot was removed and the house was vented. Great job to all

Gerald Mansfield - Holla Hose member has passed away On: November 7th, 2006
Gerald W. Mansfield, a lifelong
Ossining resident, died November 7, 2006, he was 68. Jerry was
born September 18, 1938 to Harry and Louise (Wagner)
Mansfield. He served in the US Army during Vietnam with the
82nd Airborne. Jerry was a member of the Ossining Fire Dept.,
Holla Hose Company. He worked for General Motors in North
Tarrytown for 28 years. Jerry married Carolyn Zulla on May 12,
1962. Jerry loved spending time with his family, especially
his grandchildren, crabbing and fishing on the Hudson, the
challenge of crossword puzzles and spending time in his
garden. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons Gerald
(Suzanne), Jeffrey (Anne), Brian (Crystal), Brad (Heather),
daughter Sharon (Marc) Sussman, sister Pauline Tooley and 9
grandchildren. Jerry will be reposing Thursday 2-4 & 6-9PM
at Leach & Thomas, Inc. Funeral Home 32 State Street
Ossining. Funeral Service will be Friday 11AM at St. Paul’s
on the Hill Episcopal Church Ganung Drive Ossining, burial St.
Augustine’s Cemetery Ossining. Fire Department Services will
be on Thursday 11/9/2006 7:30 p.m. @ Leach &
Thomas-Ossining, NY

Heather Evans (R14) and John Evans
(E98) had there first child today. The baby Jenna Rose was
born at Phelps Memorial Hospital. Mother and child are doing fine. Biggest
question is
which Station will Jenna join? Cast

Box 6-6 24 Fuller Road On October 18th, 2006 at approximately 4:15 AM
The OFD was dispatched to a 24
Fuller road for a report of a kitchen fire. First unit on
scene was Ossining Police Department and confirmed a working
fire. The Fire was quickly contained without injury. Good job
by Chris Kruse for helping the homeowners out of the house! Thanks to

crew) was introduced to the Officers as an active member of
the Fire department.
Gene Longo - Ossining's longest serving member has passed away On: September 23rd, 2006
Gene was born in
WCVFA Parade On: September 16th, 2006 The Ossining Fire Department went to the annual Westchester County Volunteer Firemans parade held in Elmsford today. This was Chief Santucci's last parade. Trophies were won for Best Overall, Best Color Guard, 2nd best ladder and most men in line. 47 Hudson St. - Bathroom fire On: September 5th, 2006 The Ossining Fire Department responded to a box 6-6 for a report of a fire in a bathroom. Two lines were pulled and the fire was knocked down very quickly. Reported by JT 15 Upper Croton Ave - Working Fire On: August 31st, 2006 The Ossining Fire Department responded to a box 114 for a report of smoke coming from 15 Upper Croton Ave. While responding the alarm was upgraded to a General alarm. Lines were stretched from Engine 99 which also had the Hydrant. As Lines were being deployed a Search Team Found the Home Owner on the Second floor. Was brought out in Arrest and Turned over to OVAC. (The homeowner later passed away at the hospital). Also while crews were conducting overhaul a second General Alarm was sounded for a Kitchen Fire at 56 South High, Apt. 5C?. Car 2331, D.C.40, Engines 96,97,100 and Ladder 41 took in the box and were on scene for approx 30-40 minutes. The Croton FAST team responded and released with thanks! Story by JT. Ossining Firefighter goes to Iraq On: August 29th, 2006 Sgt. Frank Drohan of Holla Hose Company will be heading to Iraq today. He will spend the next year or so there. Frank has been a member of the department for over 16 years and been in the Army for close to 14 years. 14 Agate Ave - Working fire On: August 12th, 2006 at approximately 2:30 PM The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched to 14 Agate Ave for a report of a working House fire today. Engine 100 was first on scene and hit a hydrant and stretched the first line. Truck 42 was first due ladder and vented the house accordingly. Croton's FAST team (engine 119) responded to the scene. Ossining Parade On: August 5th, 2006 The Ossining Fire Departments parade was held tonight. It was attended by over 20 departments from around the county. Best overall was won by Mahopac. Thanks to all the Departments that came to the parade. For a complete list of trophies click here.
53 State St. - Working Fire On: August 2nd, 2006 at approximately 12:03 PM The Ossining Fire Department responded to 53 State Street today for a report of a working house fire. The first arriving unit report smoke showing from the house. Hand lines were stretched and the fire was extinguished. Tower ladder 40 was called in on mutual aid and stood by in the quarters of Engine 101. Pictures by JT. OFD members talk about this fire in the members section.
Fastest Member??? On: July 5th, 2006 No it is not any of the fire chiefs. Not any of the pieces of equipment responding to fight the next big fire. How about John Evans? John has been a member of Ossining Steamer Company for over four years now and is the fastest member in the department. John does not race the fire truck to fires nor pull hose faster than anyone. John is capable well over 140 MPH though. Where? On the race track of course. John Evans races snowmobiles on the drag strip mostly in New Jersey. He has many trophies and wins under his belt. Most races are on Saturday's and if you have a free one you too can see him go! Happy Fathers day! On: June 18th, 2006 Happy fathers day to all you dad's out there. The web committee would also like to remind you to think of the FDNY firefighters that lost there life today in the fathers day fire in the city in 2001. Ford Downey and Fahey lost their lives in a Hardware story fire in Queens. Hudson Valley Fireman's parade On: June 17th, 2006 The Ossining Fire Department took home top honors at the biggest parade in the Hudson Valley. Trophies were won for Best Overall, Best Firefighters and Best Color Guard. Congratulations to all that helped out! Thanks to Rescue 14 for Hosting the Parade. This makes two best overall trophies in a row for the department. Reported working house fire On: May 21st, 2006 The Fire Department was dispatched on a box 6-6 for a reported working house fire in the area of 32 Seneca Rd. Apparently a BBQ grill caught the side of the house on fire. The first arriving engine was E97 and a line was deployed and the blaze was extinguished quickly. "Dick" Joyce has passed away. Dick was an active
member of Rescue 14 and has served the Ossining Fire Department in many ways.
He was an Ex-Captain from his company, he served as chief
Dispatcher along with his good friend Nick for many years. Dick was also made
a Honorary Deputy Chief a few years back. The hours of the wake
are Friday April 7th 2PM - 4PM. Then 7PM - 9PM. Department
services will be at 7:30PM. The Funeral will be at 9:45 AM at
Saint Ann's Church on Eastern Ave. in Ossining.
Working Car fire - Section 4 Claremont Gardens On: March 12th, 2006 at approximately 2:07 AM Box 113 was sounded for a working car fire at Section 4 Claremont Gardens. Upon arrival the Engine 96 observed a mini van fully engulfed in flame. The blaze was extinguished and no firefighters were reported injured. Story and pictures by JT Camp.
Head on Collision - South Highland Ave. On: March 11th, 2006 at approximately 10:00 PM Head on collision on South Highland Ave today in front od Dunin Donuts. Engines 97 and 100 responded along with Rescue 14 for the Hurst tool. Four people were transported to the Westchester Medical Center by O.V.A.C., Croton FD ambulance and Briarcliff FD ambulance. Con Ed Truck Rolls Over on 9A On: March 9th, 2006 On Route 9A a Con Ed which was traveling northbound rolled over today. The Fire Department spent over two hours on scene until the vehicle was back on its wheels and towed away. The driver and passenger were transported by OVAC to the Westchester County Medical Center. Working House Fire - 26 Nelson Ave On: March 3rd, 2006 at approximately 7:22 PM A working house fire was called in by a passer by and saved a house in Ossining. The Fire Department quickly responded to the blaze and found flames coming from the roof of the house. First arriving engines stretched lines and extinguished the blaze. Friend of Department Dies at Fire On: March 3rd, 2006 Westchester County Battalion Chief Robert Schnibbe Jr. died Friday evening March 3, 2006 while directing operations at a structure fire in the Village of Irvington. Chief Schnibbe began his volunteer firefighting career as a member of Protection Engine Company #1 of the Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Department (Engine 44). He served six years as a company line officer and twenty-four years as Chief officer for the Department from 1977 to 2001. He was a member of numerous fire service organizations including the Westchester County Volunteer Firefighters Association, the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs and the Westchester County Parade Judges Association where he served as President at the time of his death. Russel Shipman of Engine 100 passes away On: March 1st, 2006 Russell Shipman an active member of Holla Hose Company #5 Passed away today he was 63. In addition to be a member of Holla Hose for 42 years he served as a line officer, vice president and chief driver. Mr. Shipman also fought for our country in the Vietnam War. Department wake will be on Sunday at 7:30PM at Dorsey Funeral Home and the funeral will be on Sunday at Saint Ann's Church at 10:00 AM. ALL are urged to attend. Box 6-6 Working House Fire On: February 1st, 2006 At approximately 7:18 PM The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched on a box 6-6 for a report of a working house fire at 6 Water Street. The Police Department also reported that there might be people trapped in the residence. Engine 98 confirmed a working fire. A Young woman, her child and a dog were rescued from a basement apartment. Mutual aid was called in from Croton and Briarcliff. Talk about this fire in the members section. Box 1-1-3 Working two Car Fire On: February 1st, 2006 At approximately 11:58 AM The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched on a box 113 for a report of a car fire on Old North Highland Ave. Chief Connolly was first on scene and confirmed a working car fire. Ladder 42 was dispatched to the fire due to the close proximity of the fire to nearby buildings. Talk about this fire in the members section New Building Dedication On: January 28th, 2006 The New Building at 21 State Street was dedicated today at 10:00 AM. Chief Santucci, Steneck and Connolly along with Ossining Mayor Napolitano cut the ribbon at the front of the building and welcome the firefighters of Rescue 14 and Ladder 41 to their new home. Working Fire Box 6-6 On: January 27th, 2006 at approximately 4:00 PM The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched to box 6-6 for a report of a working fire at 3 Ogden Road. New Members to the Fire Department On: January 26th, 2006 At the monthly Association meeting 9 new members were introduced to the Chiefs and Officers of the department. The Fire Department would like to welcome the following new members: Winston Henry, Anthony Oliveria, Rich Magno (E97), Danny Espinal, Dennis Whiting (E98), Tommie Edwards, Jr. (E100), Paul Cozzolino, Corey Carter (E101), Vidal Abreu(L42). Also with the addition of Dennis Whiting joining that is a total of 4 Whiting's that belong to the Fire Department! Working Fire Box 6-6 On: January 19th, 2006 at approximately 9:00 AM The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched to box 6-6 for a report of a working fire with occupants trapped at 123 Main Street. A Winter Reminder from the Chief On: January 15th, 2006 With the bad weather here I would just like to remind all the folks of the site that snow shoveling is hard work! Everyone has members that are up there in years. It is nice to be nice. Stop by an older members house to help out with the snow if you can. It was heart breaking to attend Clayton White's funeral because he died shoveling snow. A little goodness will go along way in keeping our members safe and sound! Ossining R.I.T. responds to Croton On: January 13th (Friday), 2006 approximately 6:39 AM The Ossining Fire Departments R.I.T. responded to 9 Georgia Lane for a report of a Boiler Fire. Croton quickly extinguished the blaze and Ossining was released. Member featured in the Journal News On: January 13th, 2006 Heather Evans of Rescue 14 was featured in the Journal News today. The article was about how few female drivers there are in the country. OssiningFire.com reported to viewers after Heather was appointed to the drivers list by her company. You can read the article by clicking here. Member has a baby boy! On: January 6th, 2006 Michael Mitchell's wife Schelly of Rescue 14 had a baby boy today! The baby Michael Elijah weighed 6 pounds 15 ounces and was a whopping 19 1/2 inches long! Both the mother and baby are doing well. OssiningFire.com Turns One! On: January 5th, 2006 Well it was bound to happen. OssiningFire.com turned One year old today! The Department would like to thank all that have sent in ideas and pictures in for stories! Box 6-6 working House fire On: January 3rd, 2006 The Ossining Fire Department was dispatched to a box 6-6 for a reported working house fire. Police Officers on scene confirmed a working fire with residents trapped on a front porch. Police Officers Carpenter, Drohan and Meudt all members of the Ossining Fire Department rescued the pair from the balcony with an extension ladder. Members of the department entered and extinguished the blaze without injury to firefighters. The blaze was contained to the one house. Mutual aid was called in from surrounding departments and their assistance was greatly appreciated. Neighbors from the area opened their doors to the displaced fire victims and provided them with shoes and blankets to keep warm.
